Syrah, Horse Heaven Hills, 2006

$38.00

Overlooking the Columbia River just east of the Columbia Gorge is the exciting new American Viticultural Area (AVA) of Horse Heaven Hills.  It is a diverse appellation, shaped predominantly by the great Missoula floods.  Wind and the elements play a definitive role in the character of the wines produced here.  This Syrah fruit came from two sources, Rob Andrew’s vineyards, near McKinley Springs in the northern quadrant of the AVE, and Aldercreek Vineyard close to the Columbia Gorge near the western end of the AVA.  This Syrah is bold and demonstrative, with incredible color, substantial tannins, and plenty of aging potential.

Winemaker’s Notes:

This is definitely a terroir driven wine, demonstrating the earthy, leathery characters which typify Syrah from Horse Heaven Hills. The tannins are firm and robust; aromas of earth, mushrooms and tobacco; rich flavors of blackberry and plum linger on the palate.
